Feb/Mar 2025 Spotlight on Mount Rushmore Ryg Hookers Social Club
EVENTS
The guild has been active in teaching and reaching out to the community and surrounding areas by sponsoring rug shows in Hot Springs, a local yarn shop, and at the Lead Deadwood Arts Center. For
the past two years guild members bundled up in January and participated at the Sheep Show in Rapid City, which is part of the annual Stock Show. New display racks purchased by the guild enhanced their display and attracted several new perspective hookers as they demonstrated and shared information. Passing their blessings on, the guild continues to donate to local charities and those in need.
Chapter History:
A group of twelve skillful artisans ranging in age from 60‐95 established the state’s first ATHA guild in October 2021 in Rapid City, South Dakota, Region 8. While some of the members have always called the Mount Rushmore State home, several have relocated or retired to the beautiful Black Hills which is not far from Belle Fourche, the geographical center of the United States. The guild meets monthly throughout the school year on the third Saturday of the month at Canyon Lake Activities Center to share new ideas, community educational outreach events, and the love of all things wool and fiber.
Every month a different member teaches a lesson or project to the guild as a way to expand their fiber
knowledge. These lessons have included finishing techniques, wearable and decorative art pieces, Oxford punching, gelli printing, and more.
