The Loopy Ladies Chapter typically meets monthly, usually in person but occasionally, as weather and extenuating circumstances require, by Zoom. We also have events during the year to demonstrate rug hooking. Recently these included a historical site open to the community for a fall festival, and a well-attended “Makers Fest” at a local library. We have offered many workshops featuring nationally known McGown certified teachers as well as experts in other aspects of rug hooking. Currently we are considering adding local, more casual, hook-ins, possibly in conjunction with our nearby rug hooking guilds in Illinois and or in Wisconsin to demonstrate to the public. Various members in our group write articles for ATHA magazine, McGown Magazine, and Rug Hooking to share our knowledge and expand awareness of Loopy Ladies. We have an active Facebook page with over 230 followers and more than 1,000 views in the past month. We also have a very active web page which leads to inquiries about membership.
The chapter meets monthly in person in the Libertyville or Grayslake area in Illinois. We are in the North Chicago suburbs. Please reach out to a chapter officer or send us an email at loopyladies75@gmail.com to connect with our group.
Chapter History:
Our chapter was formed several decades ago to develop and promote interest in rug hooking. Our goal is to maintain high standards and encourage creativity in the art. Through our meetings, demonstrations, involvement in community events, our website, and our Facebook page, we provide a means of exchange of ideas and information among members and to the community at large. Ultimately we are promoting educational activities to improve the quality of traditional rug hooking and to stimulate new interest in the fine craft of rug hooking.
