Houston ATHA Hookers

Meeting Information:

The chapter meets every Wednesday  and the 3rd Saturday at the Weekley Community Center, 8440 Greenhouse Road, Cypress, TX 77433 from 10 am – 2 pm. Come join us!   Visit our Houston ATHA Rug Hookers Chapter Facebook page for more information.

Our Chapter is dedicated to supporting and encouraging our fellow rug  hookers as they learn new techniques and expand their artistic horizons.  We welcome new rug hookers and love to help them get started.   We endeavor to bring teachers in for classes at least once a year.   Some of our members love to teach smaller, one day workshops for anyone to learn a new technique including wool appliqué or wool decorative pieces.

Each year, we hold a 2-day hook-in.  For the past 3 years, we’ve held our hook-in at the Fort Bend County Fairgrounds in Rosenberg, Texas. Every year, our hook-in has a unique theme, which adds to the fun.  In 2025 our theme was “Trick or Treat in the Heat!”   At least once a year, we try to give back to others with charitable donations.  This past year, our members and hook-in guests donated well over 300 pounds of dog and cat food to a local shelter.

Our chapter members have demonstrated at local fiber festivals and special arts and crafts events to bring rug hooking to others.  At the 2024 ATHA Convention, many of our members contributed by volunteering their time as well as serving on the Convention Committee.

History:

Seeing the need for a second ATHA rug hooking group in Houston, a small group of Stash Sister members who lived in Central and West Houston, began a new group on the West side of town   We became known as the Houston ATHA Rug Hookers when we officially became an ATHA Chapter in 2017.
