Big Muddy Rug Hookers

Meeting & Chapter Activities

The BMRH Chapter meets six times per year, alternating meeting locations between Boonville, MO and Columbia, MO.  In the past year, our members have had the opportunity to participate in rug workshops as well as to teach rug hooking to interested beginners, to provide hooking demonstrations at a variety of events, and to host our annual Halloween rug hook-in event, The Marshall Monster Mash, held each October in Marshall, MO.  We are thrilled to report that the 2024 hook-in had 170 participants!

Most importantly, many members participated in two events which garnered awards of recognition.  Our Guild members took up a Barn Quilt rug hooking challenge.  Members designed their own patterns in which they hooked a barn with a quilt pattern of their choice.  The outcome was creative and very impressive.  We chose to submit members’ rugs for an exhibit at Rug Hooking Week at Sauder Village 2024.  To our delight, we received the People’s Choice Fiber Arts Sauder Award, Rug Hooking Week 2025!

Also of note, several members submitted their hooked rugs to the 2024 Missouri State Fair, and received a variety of Blue, Red, and White ribbons for their textile work.

Our chapter is active, we continually seek to improve our skills, and most importantly, we enjoy each other’s company and learning from one another. Please reach out to a chapter officer for meeting details.

Chapter History

The Big Muddy Rug Hookers (BMRH) Chapter was formed in 2018, with goals to develop interest in rug hooking; encourage creativity and high standards in this fiber art; provide an environment in which members may enhance their hooking skills, exchange ideas, share resources and create a community of creativity.  We wish to increase awareness of the craft of rug hooking by demonstrating it to the public.
